Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be toddlers.

Don’t let them pick noses and find trash to eat
Just let them stay babies who smile in their sleep
Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be toddlers.
They’ll scream to go home and won’t leave you alone
And they’ll bite just to show you their love.

Toddlers ain’t easy to love and they’re harder to hold
They’d rather give you boogers than diamonds or gold
They put gross sticky fingers all over your face
And they can stay up all night and all day
If you don’t give them candy and all of the toys,
They’ll scream and then they’ll run away.

Toddlers like trash cans and toilets and cabinets that open,
Breakable things that have buttons and staying up all night.
Grownups that don’t know them don’t like them, and even mamas
Sometimes don’t know what to do with them
They’re just learning how to be human and now
They’ve got to prove it with a fight.

Hi Lisa,
I just read your article from “Make a Living Writing” and wanted to thank you so much! I’m a mom of four and have been dabbling in freelance writing for about a year. I’d really like to amp up my writing and connections this year as my youngest just started kindergarten half-day. Thanks so much for the Linkedin advice. Off to update the profile! Have a great week, and thanks very much.

Thanks, Amy! Congrats on your youngest starting kindergarten! Now you really get to be Supermom because you will have kid-free time! My oldest is about to start kindergarten so I’ve got a long way to go.
